One of a Kind: Our very own Kopi Auntie!
Reading time: 2.7 min

It is not every day that you find a kopi auntie in a car rental company.
Our Jalan Besut Service Centre is always a hive of activity, with our workshop mechanics tirelessly servicing, maintaining, and caring for LCR’s extensive fleet of cars.
To provide our customers with a comfortable and relaxed environment as they await their servicing to be completed, the Service Centre also comes equipped with a spacious waiting area with ample seating and facilities.
One incredibly special feature is the kopi kiosk, manned by our very own hardworking Sandy who painstakingly brews and serves complimentary traditional Nanyang-style coffee and tea to our waiting hirers as a pick-me-up. For our hungry hirers, she also specially whips up piping hot cup noodles to satiate their appetite.

Sandy, the kopi auntie at our Jln Besut Service Centre
Despite having just over a year of experience, she has already mastered the art and skill of preparing the perfect cup of Nanyang-style coffee, just for our LCR hirers!
The Recipe
When we caught up with her at Jalan Besut, Sandy gave us the full lowdown on how she meticulously prepares the coffee.
Brewing the Coffee
Sandy shared with us how she lets the coffee powder steep in hot water for approximately 15 minutes in small batches, which serves approximately 6 portions. This ensures that the richness of each cup is not compromised.
After steeping, the coffee powder is then poured into a kopi kettle (the ones that you find at a typical kopitiam), ready to be poured.

Heating the Cups
Sandy added that prior to pouring the coffee for the hirers, she rinses the cups and pours boiling hot water into them and lets it sit for 5 minutes. This process, she elucidates, helps to sterilise the cups whilst helping to enhance the taste of the coffee.
Making the Coffee
Sandy makes the coffee based on her customer’s requests, whether you like it kosong (without sugar) or O (without milk). Nevertheless, her standard cup of kopi is arguably one of the best in the market, which could be attributed to her unique preparation method. Before she pours the coffee, she would first pour condensed milk. Afterwards, this is followed up by a layer of evaporated milk.
Through this special brewing process, the coffee has a rich taste and aroma which is above and beyond the coffee found elsewhere.
It sounds cliche but…
Sandy shared with us that to her, the most important part of her coffee is not her special brewing process, coffee powder, or the ingredients added, but rather that she puts her heart and soul into each cup.
To the weary driver, her coffee is rich and packs a punch without leaving them with that annoying post-caffeine edginess. Furthermore, Sandy strikes up a conversation with the drivers in between pours to keep them company and to lift their morale.
Sandy hopes that with her freshly brewed coffee and a good chat, our hirers would be reenergised and refreshed as they continue to drive for the rest of the day.
